Tuchel Wants Jude Bellingham's Passion So Long As The Three Lions' Ace Leaves Egotism Outside.

One snub proved sufficient. Another and it would have started to look spiteful from the England manager, who is much too clever not to realize that claiming the World Cup trophy will likely need the involvement of the talented midfielder, although it is also Bellingham's responsibility to adapt to the strategic frameworks and player rankings necessary with England now that he is returned to the manager's warm embrace.

The manager desires his aggressive mentality, his intensity, but it is about using it appropriately. Personal talent counts but England have learned the hard way that there is a cost when celebrity dominates. Still, a statement has been delivered.

The midfielder had much to ponder after not being selected of last month’s squad. He watched England secure their spot at the tournament in his absence. He watched Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a counterpressing attacking midfielder. He heard the coach talk about loving the squad's spirit and ethics. Naturally, he has reacted in winning fashion, netting important strikes for his club versus their rivals and Juventus. He had to be picked; another omission would have made his squad place hanging by a thread.

The expectation is that Tuchel will have a midfielder directed towards frightening rivals rather than teammates. After all, on a pure footballing level, there is little benefit to picking a fight with a top talent in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time out of the team has shown him that an international career is a valuable, precarious thing. The coach, for his part, can now throw a protective shield around the youngster after proving that he is not afraid to make big calls.

“There is no problem regarding him, and no concern with the character,” Tuchel stated. “Jude displays a competitive streak. It takes a sharp mentality to reach the heights that he reached. Everyone need to help him and build an environment which he can [have] his drive in matches and for the objectives we are working towards as a team.”

Bellingham took up much of the focus at the team news conference for the upcoming dead-rubber qualifiers versus one opponent and the other. Who else? Well, what about another talent? This is another prodigious playmaker who needs support and direction. He has not played for England since spring and has found it hard to perform well recently but Tuchel had to consider the 25-year-old after how he played in the Champions League match versus the German side recently.

The question, however, is how to use the multiple playmakers at England’s disposal. Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze merit inclusion and there will be a good argument to pick another youngster once he is fit after a ongoing injury. Would taking several attacking midfielders to the World Cup be too many? Gareth Southgate failed to discover the correct balance at the European Championship. He compromised by squeezing both stars into the starting lineup, restricting Harry Kane’s influence as a result.

It seems unlikely the current manager making the same mistake if it harms the attacking balance. Space exists for one No 10, with fast wide players on the wings. Clarity is beneficial. Bellingham is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, called up for the first time, is a No 8 and the recalled Adam Wharton will vie with another player as a No 6. Additionally, there is no wide role for Foden, who must play central. Tuchel wants him near the striker. “It does not make sense to ask Phil: ‘We want you in the team but there’s no space on your best position, could you fill in at left wing? Or the other flank?’” he stated. “He will play in the No 9-10ish position, in the middle of the pitch. I've long had this vision about him for years. In my view it fits his style best.”

Tuchel agreed there are occasions when Foden has appeared uncomfortable in an England shirt. “You feel almost like, ‘Is he truly happy? And a player like him who has such natural delight to play football, then obviously something is not right, be it the position, the setup, I don’t know.

“In my opinion he is also accustomed to representing Man City in a certain structure, to have a defined role. I think he profits greatly from clear instructions. What is my position? In which positions am I to receive the ball? Where am I supposed to push the tempo? What are my to defend?

Tuchel discussed Bellingham bursting through for tap-ins and the other netting goals from outside the box. He added he has a longlist of 60 players. Several players, others, the goalkeeper and the midfielder have been omitted. Nico O’Reilly is recognized for his fine form for City at defense. Interest abounds.

Leaving out of the striker means there is no like-for-like alternative for the captain in the selection. Interestingly, Tuchel suggested using Foden as a false 9 versus one opponent or the other. Other options, Marcus Rashford, Bellingham and the winger are other options if Kane be absent. With qualification secured, this is a moment for a little experimentation.

At the same time, it is also a moment to get Kane’s relationship with his teammate going. It is remarkable that one must look back to the latter assisting Kane to net in a friendly win versus the Scots in over a year ago to discover the one and only time in 35 games for England when the pair linked up for a score. Tuchel will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only exchanged the ball a single time during the team's ties with Denmark and another at the European Championship. Their partnership is missing.

“At this point eventually it falls to the duty of the individuals,” he stated. He does not shy away to deliver home truths. Remains a sense of Bellingham having to prove himself. He cannot even be assured to begin versus Serbia and Albania. The manager desires Bellingham onside but he will be monitoring him carefully. Leave self-importance outside. It will make a powerful England team into an more effective one.
