Path to Success
Cook's road to his Australian epic started a year and a half before at the end of that year's Ashes in the UK
Though England triumphed, Cook had an average below 25 managing only one innings above 50
He wanted more
"Cricket is a team game, personal performance does make you feel that personal responsibility matters," he explains
Game Improvement
Just 48 hours following the celebrations, he returned practicing numerous deliveries in practice under Graham Gooch's guidance
The initial results proved positive
He scored three centuries during winter tours against South African and Bangladeshi teams
Pivotal Instances
When Cook returned to England during the 2010 season, the left-hander performed poorly
In eight innings versus Bangladesh and Pakistan, his top innings was 29
Scoreless overnight following day two in the third match against Pakistan at the famous ground, Cook believed he was playing his last Test innings prior to selection
"I found myself at the bar, trying to find the resolution by drowning sorrows," he confesses

Cook's 110 secured his place on the plane to Australia

"If perfection existed for Boxing Day, that defined it. There was disbelief at the end of the day," Cook remembers

Motivated by purpose to win the urn, the batsman performed brilliantly at the SCG
His 189 lifted England to 644, their best score on Australian soil
The uncertainty wasn't if England would win the game and series, but when
"The environment was electric," recalls Cook
"When Tremlett got the final batsman to win the match, it was a moment of pure elation"
Legacy and Recognition
He earned series honors
The remaining seven years of his cricket journey included additional achievements
