Texas Top Legal Officer Sues Acetaminophen Makers Regarding Autism Spectrum Claims

Courtroom Action
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump who is running for US Senate, alleged the drug companies of hiding the risks of Tylenol

Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the manufacturers of Tylenol, claiming the firms concealed safety concerns that the pain reliever created to pediatric neurological development.

This legal action arrives four weeks after President Donald Trump publicized an unsubstantiated connection between consuming Tylenol - alternatively called acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism in young ones.

Paxton is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which previously sold the drug, the only pain reliever approved for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which presently makes it.

In a statement, he said they "deceived the public by profiting off of suffering and promoting medication regardless of the potential hazards."

The company asserts there is no credible evidence tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These manufacturers deceived for years, deliberately risking millions to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

The manufacturer commented that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the reliability of acetaminophen and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups representing doctors and healthcare providers agree.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated acetaminophen - the primary component in Tylenol - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can present serious health risks if left untreated.

"In over twenty years of research on the consumption of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any period of gestation results in neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the group commented.

This legal action references current declarations from the former administration in asserting the medication is allegedly unsafe.

Last month, Trump caused concern from public health officials when he told pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to consume acetaminophen when sick.

Federal regulators then published an announcement that physicians should consider limiting the consumption of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has remains unverified.

Health Secretary RFK Jr, who oversees the FDA, had promised in spring to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would identify the origin of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities cautioned that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a intricate combination of inherited and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a form of lifelong neurodivergence and condition that affects how persons perceive and interact with the surroundings, and is identified using physician assessments.

In his court filing, Paxton - who supports Trump who is seeking federal office - asserts Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and attempted to silence the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism.

This legal action seeks to make the firms "destroy any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is safe for expectant mothers.

The Texas lawsuit parallels the grievances of a collection of mothers and fathers of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the makers of acetaminophen in recently.

The court threw out the case, stating research from the family's specialists was inconclusive.
