Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
