The Evolution of a Movement is often marked by distinct phases.

1. The Big Idea

A dominant personality or figureheads present an innovative concept that promises a cure for alienated and vulnerable people.

Thus we find ourselves. Plans are in motion to storm the compound overseas. Pressure is mounting. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. A lone figure, exposed, nervous, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET written on his body as a symbol, has stumbled through the lines and is being led away under a blanket towards an inconclusive loan stint in county cricket.

Do you recall the early days, when optimism reigned? The era of early Bazball, of uninhibited aggression.

2. Love-Bombing

Cult leaders guarantee a reboot, hope for a future, support, salvation together who all believe in the method.

How did it feel at first? A team united feeling good. Ink. Strength. Focus. Confident masculinity. Admittedly, The team insist Bazball doesn’t actually exist, amusingly as it’s denied, what exactly did I just watch?

But we know what it is. It’s Harry Brook playing a shot so depraved it defies description. It’s the thrill of the captain at his peak, an expression conveying: focused titan, strong features, untamed style, truly contemporary you half-expect to look down and find him positioned at mid-off stripped to the waist embracing nature.

It’s the opener still being allowed speaking publicly, appearing as a joyful figure formally attired, saying stuff like we are actively deconstructing the orange. Certainly, the vibe, initially, was only good energy.

3. A New Life

Growth phase. Cohesion maintained by rote learning of key phrases. These beliefs can appear contradictory to prove commitment.

Does anyone else feel? The backlash, the fury, the sense of betrayal post-defeat feels overblown, overdone. The performance was poor on the field, as is typical there. They were dominated in the field during a brief period as the bowling and captaincy fell apart, carved around by the batsman playing aggressively but smarter, adaptive to conditions, an athlete shining with a kind of light around him.

And now we have this the pile-on, the frustration, the perception of the team as a failure. The feeling seems to be that England don’t just need to lose, they must be humbled, to be cleansed, flame-throwered, overwhelmed by the vengeful purity of the bowler’s action, the conventional tactics of Scott Boland, out there celebrating successes humbly similar to getting a pleasant gift. How will they respond?

4. The Backlash Phase

Problems arise due to setbacks. Yet, mistakes are denied. It turns to anger towards critics.

In truth, approaching from the second Test, we have now reached a delicious point of tension in the journey of this movement. They might succeed in the next Test in a blur of adrenal disruption. Probably, defeat could come swiftly. Should they fail it seems we really might be entering the final stage.

Prior to that, several aspects worth saying on the topic. Previously, during the initial excitement, of optimism and energy, a column appeared labeling it a movement. People were very angry, which proved the point because everyone knows how to confirm lack of cult status is if supporters react defensively denying scrutiny of its truths.

And this is the real point. Everything is a cult. The style was a trend as the game has its own culture. Or rather, the team has long been exclusive, a circle, a private event, a closed world with two hundred years of opaque and ritualistic cult history supporting it. It has long been a place where power and access are hoarded. It’s the colonial game of the British, the original sports washers. And notably, the country is a phenomenon, a system of unknown levels, a royal family remains.

The players have been enclosed in this environment since childhood. Attempting to break free, to foster positivity, they are simply replicating their own experience, building another enclosure, a limited community, but now with a modern squad and a mentor who wants you to be yourself provided you conform.

Live where your feet are. Confront risks. Despite efforts, you remain stuck.

Considering this, it might be appropriate to have some sympathy for the approach, to recognize its positives, which are significant. What does it represent? Encouraging expression. Challenging orthodoxies. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
