The acclaimed UK star Dame Helen, already holder of an Academy Award, several BAFTA honors, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, is poised to receive another major award to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' career honor.

Award Event

Mirren, 80, formerly honored as a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will accept the accolade at an event January 8, just prior to the Golden Globes main event take place, during a program described by the Golden Globes as Golden Eve.

This will also include the bestowal of the Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for TV work, the recipient of which remains unannounced. The prior year’s honorees were Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as an unstoppable talent, and her career is absolutely remarkable,” remarked the organization’s president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her brilliant portrayals and devotion to her art constantly motivate numerous actors and viewers as well. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her this lifetime achievement honor.”

Notable Roles

Helen Mirren rose to fame during the seventies via important performances on stage in the West End of London and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her prominent part in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase even more. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She won an Oscar for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a role she revisited back in 2013 within The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan concerning the sessions between the queen and premier the former PM, and for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• Later-career movies comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Her role in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is building about her portrayal as a dying matriarch in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Next year, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be declared on 8 December, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
