Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
