British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up the current season and will keep her coach for 2026.
The British player reached the third round in three Grand Slam tournaments Grand Slam events in the current campaign.
Britain's Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the last two tournaments of the year because of the illness she has been fighting for the last week and a half.
The 22-year-old was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to regain her health before starting her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will include trainer Francisco Roig, as they have agreed to work together for the upcoming season.
The tennis professional underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match against Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She needed once more medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the first round.
Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the deciding set in the match with Zhu because of back discomfort that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the top 30 globally after a long gap in more than three years, ended with three successive defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points prior to falling to Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month.
Raducanu won 28 victories during 2025 and made it to the semi-final round in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at March's Miami Open.
The British number one reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament before losing in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role in time for the US Open.
The first plan with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was for the remainder of the year but the collaboration persists, with planned training sessions late this year.
Raducanu told that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She nearly succeeded to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati in August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she reached the third round prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
