A Heap of Anime Updates Landed During the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of activities far superior than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments came out during the holidays, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. Yet, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has yet to be revealed.
